Billy Coleman Award winner Keith Cronin headed an Irish 1-2-3 result in the Group N Production class of the RBS Manx National Rally, finishing the two day event 47 seconds ahead of Northern Ireland driver Neil McCance, with Daniel Barry from Enniskerry taking third place, all three driving Lancer Evo 9s.
Former Young Racing Driver of the Year Peter Dempsey had a surprise, last minute drive in the Formula Ford 2000 race at Road Atlanta, in the USA, where he was originally scheduled to be a mechanic. One of the team drivers was unable to compete, and the team put the Ashbourne driver into the car wearing borrowed overalls and helmet.
He qualified fourth on a circuit where he had never driven, but clutch failure put him out of the first race. In race two, he took second place behind championship leader Anders Krone, giving the Andersen Racing Team a 1-2 success.
Ten year old Peter Kirwan continued his unbeaten run this year when he won a closely fought Cadet Final at the Munster Kart Club's race meeting at Watergrasshill, his fourth final win in two months. Novice Ross Hayes took second place ahead of Conor Shaw.
Four times Hewison Autotest champion Eddie Peterson completed a weekend double when he took a clear win in TDC's event in Arklow, following on from the Ireland team's fifth victory in a row in the International Trophy event the previous day.
The Dubliner led team mates Eamonn Byrne, Steven Bolton and David Thompson, who won his class, to a 34 second triumph over old rivals Northern Ireland, with Munster taking third place.
