Bob Parks Trophy

Bob Parks

If you ever raced in Ireland, you would know the Parks name. Whether it be Robbie Parks, a frontrunner in Formula Vee, Formula Sheane, Future Classics, Motocross and powerboats, or maybe David Parks, Robbie’s younger brother, raced in Formula Vee as soon as he was old enough and a Formula Sheane Championship contender every year for the past few years, or possibly the newest of the clan to race, young Rob Parks, son of David, started out in Karting and made his circuit debut in Ginetta Junior Ireland just one month ago with great success. All great racing Dynasties had to start with someone, and that someone was the much loved and missed Bob Parks, father to David and Robbie and grandfather to Rob.

Bob was the epitome of a petrol head; he raced anything and everything he could. From Motocross to driving the family car to auto tests, ripping the kids and seats out of the car and competing to racing his beloved Formula Vee for many, many years. Bob was always there to help others out; he would even give others his car if it meant they wouldn’t miss the race. He was also one of the kindest, hardest and funniest men you would ever meet at the circuit. When his boys were old enough he created one of the most iconic race teams at Mondello and Kirkistown in the BRD team, you would never be shy of tea and the craic in the BRD truck! Bob raced, as his sons Robbie and David do now, under the number 111, a number which has graced many forms of Irish Motorsport under the BRD banner and now under the Vertical Racing banner.

Bob sadly passed away last summer but is remembered by his wife Jenny, sons Robbie and David, daughters Heather, Aisling and Mandy and grandchildren, of which there are many to mention. His family has decided that a fantastic way to remember the late great is to commission a memorial trophy in his name. This trophy is to be raced for for the first time at the Anglesey Circuit in North Wales on Sunday the 29th of May in a special trophy race for Formula Sheane in a reverse grid format. It will be one of the most hotly contested races of the year for Formula Sheane particularly due to its format and because of the fact that everyone, including his son David, want to win this trophy. With no less than 7 different race winners entered for this event you can be sure every driver out there will want to be the one bringing Bob’s trophy home with them on the boat.
