News from the Weekend

Irish pair Kris Meeke and Paul Nagle, the Intercontinental Rally Challenge title holders, put in a strong recovery drive after early problems in Rally Azores, climbing from fifth at the start of the final day to second at the finish. However, a series of problems in previous events leave them out of contention for this year’s championship.

Fifteen year old Dubliner Niall Murray dominated the inaugural races in the new Ginetta Junior Ireland racing class at Mondello Park on Sunday, starting both races from pole position and going on to win both, setting fastest lap each time as well.

In the opening race, he was beaten off the line by karter Joel Richardson, who led for three laps, but Murray then went ahead and opened out a clear lead. Martin Tracey also scored a double, winning both ITCC races in his Ford Sierra, while Robert Casey won the Formula Vee Final

At Brands Hatch, Niall Murray’s elder brother Eoin, a former multiple champion, took third place in both rounds of the Seat Leon Eurocup, adding the fastest lap of the opening race, leaving him second in the series behind Frenchman Michael Rossi.
