Motorsport Irelands support for Ari Vatanen for FIA Presidency

Motorsport Ireland today announces its support for Ari Vatanen in the Finn’s candidacy for the position of President of the FIA

This decision in no way takes away from MI’s support for Max Mosley as an individual who has served Ireland well during his years as President.

However, with the imminent retirement of Max, we cannot think of a better candidate for the position of President than Ari Vatanen, who competed regularly in major Irish rallies in the 1970s and early 1980s.

After the 1981 World Rally Champion ended his career as a professional rally driver, he turned to politics and was elected as a Member of the European Parliament from 1999 to 2009. Having now stepped down from that position, he sees an opportunity to contribute to the sport which has been such a large part of his life and to motoring generally.

We believe that Ari will bring a fresh vision to the FIA that can only be good for all those who wish to see a new beginning.
