Thompson Assault on Fuji

10 June 2010

Teenage racer Gary Thompson lies sixth in the championship standings heading to rounds five and six of the Japanese Formula 3 Championship at Fuji this weekend.

The Dubliner's brace of fourth place finishes in the last two races at Twin Ring Motegi have boosted confidence that the reigning Formula BMW Pacific Rookie Cup Champion can challenge for podium honours at the iconic Japanese GP venue nestling in the shadow of Mount Fuji.

It's a third new circuit for the former karting star to learn in as many events but the form shown in Motegi suggests that the Achievement by KCMG squad are gathering momentum in the ultra competitive J-F3 National Class.

Since the last event Thompson has confirmed renewed backing from Cebu Pacific, the Philippines number one domestic carrier and one of the fastest growing airlines in Asia. The 17-year-old is looking forward to carrying Cebu Pacific branding on his Dallara-TOMs F3 car this weekend.

It's great to have got renewed support from Cebu Pacific and I'm excited about the weekend in Fuji,” says Gary.

It's an amazing place and I can't wait to get out in practice to get the feel of it. I really felt that we made a significant leap in competitiveness last time out and I feel that we're ready to step up another gear this weekend.

It's another new track and there's lots to learn so I'm not going to make any predictions but if we keep our head down and work hard at it, who knows what can happen.

The 16-race Japanese F3 series resumes at Fuji International circuit on June 12th and 13th and concludes at Autopolis on October 17th.
