Novice pairing Diarmuid French and Brian O’Mahony scored a runaway win in the Skibbereen 100 Isles Navigation Trial at Aughaville in West Cork, taking the lead on the first of four time cards and never being challenged for the rest of the event.
At the finish, they were 30 marks clear of runners up James Fitzgerald and Ken Carmody, with Monaghan crew Aidan Sherry and Oisin Sherlock making their long trip worthwhile by taking third place, another ten marks down.
The Tyrone-Donegal combination of Ryan Loughran and Gareth Doherty took a four second victory in the Lagoon Bar and Restaurant Mini Stages Rally at Termon, near Letterkenny, with Damien Gallagher and Mac Walsh recovering from a slow start to take second place.
Early leader Kevin Gallagher was seven seconds ahead of the eventual winners after the opening two stages, but was then forced to retire his Darrian.
In Co Wicklow, Fergil Gregory dominated the Leinster Kehoe Cup Sporting Trial at the Sugarloaf Mountain, completing the twelve sections with four marks to spare over Morgan Evans, while Siobhan McCann came out best in a three way tie for the final podium position.
MI licence holder Aaron Johnston guided Oliver Solberg to 25th overall on the opening round of the 2020 World Rally Championship, Rallye Monte Carlo. The Irish pairing of Eamonn Boland and MJ Morrissey finished 26th.
