Fergus Faherty claimed a narrow win in the first of two Boss Formula Libre races at Mondello Park, coming through on the last lap to beat Sylvie Mullins to the chequered flag by one tenth of a second. A shower of rain just before the start caused some drivers to change from dry weather slick tyres to intermediates, and Faherty wasn’t able to challenge for the lead in the opening laps.
However, as the track dried out, he climbed through the field, and just caught Mullins in the nick of time. Michael Roche looked to have the race under control for most of the way, and was the first driver to take the flag, but he had jumped the start, and the ten second penalty relegated him to third place.
Victory for Alex Denning in the first Fiesta ST race clinched the class championship for the Dubliner, with Graham McDonnell taking race two from a reversed grid. James Fleming and Andy Kavanagh took top spots in the two Fiesta Zetec events following thrilling battles involving most of the field.
New class records were set in several classes, with Kevin Doran, Michael Cullen and Robert Barrable all beating the previous bests in their respective races
