Watch the 1996 Irish Super Prix from 7pm on Thursday, April 15th

Motorsport Ireland will stream highlights of the 1996 Irish Super Prix from 7pm on Thursday, April 15th.

This week’s Motorsport Ireland – RIAC classic video from the RPM Motorsport collection is highlights from the 1996 Irish Super Prix where a new Mondello Park lap record was set.

The 1996 Irish Super Prix attracted a strong entry, headed by Johan Rajamaki, leader of the Boss Series in Britain for this class of ex-Formula One, Formula 3,000 and other Libre cars. Rajamaki led off pole but Britain's Perry McCarthy (who would become the first Stig on Top Gear) came from the back of the grid to challenge the Swedish driver. The lap record of 52.30 seconds set by Martin Donnelly in 1988 fell several times, with both of them setting new times. But it was Rajamaki took the 1,000 Guineas prize for setting the new record of 50.72 seconds in his 700 horsepower ex F1 Footwork-Judd, with McCarthy and third placed Tony Worswick also going under the old record, recording times of 50.83 and 51.92 respectively.

This programme will be available to stream below from 7pm on April 15th.:

Next week’s upload will feature highlights from the 2001 Tour de Luxembourg Rally where the travelling Irish contingent made quite an impression on the continent.
