The job of the Scrutineer is to check that competing vehicles comply with the relevant technical regulations, which help to ensure safety and fair play.

While experience in engineering or a similar technical field is usually an advantage, it is not essential.

If you are new and wish to get involved, simply download, and complete our Officials and Marshals Application Form, tick the Technical assistant box, and send in the form, making sure all relevant information has been provided. The application will be passed on to the Technical Commission for approval of your licence. Once you have satisfied the requirements, your licence will be issued, and the Technical Commission will be in touch to discuss your training needs from there.

A Scrutineer Technical Seminar takes place every year, generally towards the end of the year. At this seminar, all current and upcoming changes for the upcoming year are discussed. There is a run through to make sure all Scrutineers are familiar with any changes or new regulations coming into effect in the coming year.

Scrutineers are reminded that those who wish to renew their licence must have attended a seminar at least once in a two-year period. Anyone wishing to join the panel of scrutineers for the first time is also welcome to attend on the day. This seminar will cater both for those needing to renew a licence and those wishing to join the team for the first time.
