Creighton chases British title in Ceredigion

Motorsport Ireland Rally Academy driver William Creighton will battle against some of Europe’s finest talent next weekend, as he tackles the penultimate round of the Probite British Rally Championship (BRC), the JDS Machinery Rali Ceredigion [5-7 September].

The jewel in the crown of British rallying, the three-day Welsh closed road event sees the FIA European Rally Championship join the billing and offers the chance for the Irishman to go toe-to-toe with the ERC regulars.

However, Creighton’s focus will be firmly on the British Championship and heading into the fifth round, he and co-driver Liam Regan are firmly affixed at the top of the standings, leading a Castrol MEM Rally Team one-two, with teammate Meirion Evans in second.

Creighton has been the standout performer of the BRC season to date and the only driver to have secured two wins in 2025. Driving a Toyota GR Yaris Rally2, Creighton began his campaign with victory at East Riding, immediately stamping his authority on the championship. A hard-fought second place on the Carlisle Stages kept him in touch at the top, before his impressive win on the Grampian Forest Rally confirmed his status as the man to beat.

That form means the 27-year-old now heads to Ceredigion with a chance of wrapping up the title with a round to spare. If he scores maximum championship points in Aberystwyth and his rivals falter, the crown could be his, adding the British marker to his growing list of accolades, which already includes the Junior British Rally Championship and the FIA Junior WRC titles. But Creighton is eager to remain focused.

“It’s been an incredible season so far,” said Creighton.

“The competition has been intense, and every rally has asked something different of us. To be in a position to fight for the British title at Ceredigion is a huge honour, but we’re keeping our focus on the rally itself. This event is unique. The stages are technical, fast and unforgiving, and with the ERC drivers here, it’s the perfect opportunity to see how we stack up against some of the very best in Europe.”

Rali Ceredigion is the only UK round of the FIA European Rally Championship, attracting an international field packed with Rally2 specialists. For Creighton, who already has experience on the world stage, it represents an opportunity to measure his pace against full-time ERC contenders on home roads.

But a strong result in Ceredigion would put him within touching distance of the BRC crown, and while much of the attention is on the title permutations, Creighton remains firmly grounded.

“There’s still a long way to go,” he explained. “Rali Ceredigion is a rally you have to respect. The ERC guys are in a close championship battle and will be pushing from the start, but the British Championship points are vital, especially with the 1.5 points multiplier available on the event, so we are focused on having a clean rally. The approach will be the same as all year, and we have been working very hard between events to ensure we are fully ready for the challenge ahead.”.
