Female talent to the fore at Kerry Co-Driver training
The Motorsport Ireland Women in Motorsport Commission has welcomed the significant female participation at the recent Killian Duffy training seminar in Kerry.
Over 20 percent of the 85-strong crowd was comprised of women, many of whom were newcomers taking their first steps into the competitive side of the sport.
The evening provided a professional platform for aspiring navigators to learn from one of the most respected names in world rallying.
Killian Duffy’s "Next Stage" course delivered a comprehensive overview of the co-driver's role, with a specific focus on recce skills and pace note accuracy.
For the many women in attendance, the session offered a rare opportunity to bridge the gap between interest and active participation.
Commission representative Susan Smyth was in attendance throughout the night to meet with the participants and offer guidance on how to further progress within the sport.
After the session she held several informal briefings with the female attendees, discussing the various pathways available through the Commission and the wider Motorsport Ireland network.
The Commission said that the presence of so many new faces suggests a bright future for female involvement in the technical departments of Irish rallying.
“Congratulations to Kerry Motor Club on their successful event tonight and to Killian Duffy on an informative and interactive workshop” said Smyth.
“Initiatives like these show people there are huge opportunities available. Speaking with several women attendees, and to see the spark lit to take the next step, it was inspiring. The Women in Motorsport Commission will be delighted to mentor them and we're excited to see them progress.”
The event concluded with a strong sense of momentum for the Women in Motorsport movement in the southwest.
By providing free access to world-class coaching in a welcoming environment, Kerry Motor Club and the WIM Commission have ensured that a new generation of competitors is better equipped for the challenges of the 2026 season and beyond.
