Ireland represents at Rotax MAX Challenge Grand Finals in Bahrain
From scorching desert straights to the tight, technical sections that define the Bahrain International Karting Circuit, Team Ireland delivered a week of performances to be proud of at the RMC Grand Finals. A top-five finish in Mini MAX, a hard-earned Junior MAX final appearance, and strong, competitive drives in Senior MAX and DD2 made this year’s event another showcase of Irish talent on the world stage. Bahrain once again proved why the Grand Finals is the Olympics of karting - world-class grids, relentless racing, and a week that pushes every driver to new limits.
The Rotax MAX Challenge Grand Finals returned to Sakhir, hitting the spectacular Bahrain International Karting Circuit - a venue renowned for its flowing layout, punishing braking zones and unforgiving rhythm. With perfect Bahraini conditions of 26°C, bright sunshine, and a warm desert breeze, over 400 drivers from 60+ nations arrived to battle it out across all categories from Micro MAX to DD2 Masters, including both E20 electric classes.
This year also saw 394 brand-new Birel ART karts handed out, a reflection of Birel’s long-standing commitment to innovation, family values and international success. Generations of passion have shaped Birel into one of the most respected names in karting, with results and reliability that continue to draw top talent worldwide.
Team Ireland Driver Highlights
Mini MAX – Alex Reilly
Alex delivered one of the standout Irish performances of the event, showing composure and pace all week long. After navigating intense heats and the pressure of the world stage, he secured a fantastic 5th place in the Mini MAX Final - an exceptional result against the best young drivers on the planet.
Junior MAX – Ben McCloughry
Ben fought brilliantly through the heats to earn his well-deserved spot in the Junior MAX Final. After all the work he put in to qualify, he was unfortunately taken out in the final, forcing an early retirement. Despite the setback, he still finished a respectable 32nd in the world, proving the strength of his form throughout the week.
Senior MAX – Reuben Kernohan
Reuben showed impressive speed and consistency in one of the most competitive classes of the Grand Finals. Despite strong drives all week, he narrowly missed out on a place in the Final, finishing 44th out of 72 - a performance full of determination and potential.
DD2 – Joseph McMahon
Joseph demonstrated excellent pace and racecraft in the stacked DD2 field. Like Reuben, he pushed hard throughout the event and came close to securing a final berth, ultimately finishing 44th out of 72 after a week of solid performances and fierce battles.
