Congratulations to Jenna McCann from Co. Cavan, who took the overall win from an impressive field of 58 finishers at the Mayo Motorsport Club Loose Surface Autocross on Sunday, held in Harringtons Quarry, Swinford.
This is Jenna's first overall win at this event, in the Ford Fiesta R5 she double drove with her partner John.
Speaking about the event Jenna said "I am delighted with the win in Mayo, it is the best autocross in the country in my opinion! I would like to say a special thanks to CMC Motorsport for their work, and to my team. Well done to COC Grainne Timlin, Deputy COC Lorraine Munnelly and their crew on a great event, and a huge thanks to all the volunteers."
Jenna began rallying in early 2015 in a Peugeot 106, having previously acted as co-driver for her father, and has always been a big supporter of the Mayo event, taking her first Ladies Award there in 2016.
A trailblazer in her own right, Jenna made history in 2017 when she won the Clonakilty Black Pudding Junior Tarmac Championship and she was also nominated for the Billy Coleman Young Driver of the Year award the same year. With many successes under her belt since then, she is having great results in the Irish Forest Championship this year, and is a true ambassador for Women in Motorsport.
Congratulations also to J1000 driver Gemma Hallinan taking 2nd in Class 8, and to Patricia Denning and Ella Conway who also competed at the event - great to see a number of female drivers displaying great performance.
Carrying on the theme of Women in Motorsport in Autocross at the weekend, Galway Motor Club ran the second round of the Shannon Trophies National Grass Autocross Championship, which was headed up by COC Niamh Callanan, with her daughter Aoife as secretary of the event and a great team alongside them.
Autocross is a great entry level discipline to help refine car control skills that can carry into any and all motorsport disciplines, inclusive to everyone from 13 years and up.
