The 13,626 km of the Circuit de la Sarthe are ready to come alive once again with all the action and excitement of the world’s most famous motor race: the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The 93rd edition of the celebrated endurance race will take place between June 14 and 15, and 2018 Motorsport Ireland Young Racing Driver of the Year, Charlie Eastwood is poised to make a run at the LMGT3 category with TF Sport.
Driving the #81 Corvette Z06 GT3.R, Eastwood will be accompanied by teammates Rui Andrade and Tom Van Rompuy over the 24-hour race. While the #81 Corvette has been held back so far by a few hiccups and sits 15th in the standings, its #33 team car– which won the first round of the World Endruance Championship in Qatar - will arrive at Circuit de la Sarthe as leader of the LMGT3 standings with 44 points, four points ahead of its nearest rival. The battle in a class of 24 cars will obviously be fierce and tight, but the whole team knows what it is capable of and will not give up the fight.
CHARLIE EASTWOOD, #81 TF SPORT GOLD DRIVER:
“Last year we didn’t have a great race at Le Mans, but we took a big step forward after the race and during the summer break. That showed with some really strong performances in the last three events last year, and we’ve carried that forward into this season. We are all looking forward to Le Mans, as for one reason or another we haven’t had the start of the season we were hoping for. I literally love every single part of Le Mans. It is the best endurance race in the world, in my opinion, and by far. Many elements are so special. I have so many good memories and key memories of Le Mans: my first laps, the first time I did the parade, the first time I did a qualifying lap, the first time I took the start and heard the roar of the crowd over the engine, which I’ve never heard anywhere else. And then, of course, I have fond memories of winning in 2020. This race it’s a dream for many, and I’ve been lucky enough to do it several times and win it. I hope I can do it for as long as possible”.
The first track session gets underway at 13:00 Irish time today, Wednesday 11 June, while the race will kick off on Saturday 14 June at 15:00. Viewers in Ireland can follow the race online through the FIA WEC service, or check local television providers for coverage.
