As the sun set on another successful weekend of Autotesting in the Newcastle West area, Limerick Motor Club acknowledged the passing of Paul Phelan who was one of the legends of the sport. It was more than fitting that the club had a big entry of four Junior competitors and had appointed two Junior Deputy COCs for the event.
This along with Junior marshals timekeeping on multiple tests over the weekend shows a great future for the youth in Autotesting and in Limerick MC!
On Saturday 27th, Emma Barrett was the Junior Deputy COC, she spent the day shadowing other officials during the event and gained some brilliant experience. Sam Barrett came on board on Sunday 28th and got involved with everything from test layout to prizegiving.
The four Junior competitors entered for both days and all enjoyed the two counting rounds of the Partsworld Munster Autotest Championship and went home with an appetite for more.
A big thank you has to go to the parents of all of the Juniors and to Youth Liaison Officer for the weekend, Ita Doonan.
The work that was put in by parents, volunteers and event organisers to encourage the Juniors into motorsport is paying off. Hopefully these young people will further inspire others to get involved!
