Motorsport Ireland Women in Motorsport Commission Celebrates Second Annual Event with Global Speakers
The Motorsport Ireland Women in Motorsport Commission is proud to announce the return of its annual networking event, taking place this Friday, 10th October, at the Athlone Springs Hotel.
Following the success of its inaugural event in March 2024, this year’s gathering has expanded to attract participants, speakers, and guests from across Ireland and overseas including the UK, USA, and Kenya — reflecting the growing influence and momentum of women in motorsport.
A highlight of the evening will be a keynote address by Kate Beavan from More Than Equal — a global high-performance motorsport initiative with a mission to find and develop the first female Formula 1 World Champion.
Driven by data and evidence, More Than Equal conducts pioneering research into female driver performance, examining the factors that influence success at the elite level. The organisation identifies top female racing talent worldwide and delivers a bespoke Driver Development Programme, combining technical coaching, advanced physical preparation, and personal development — helping to close the performance gap for women in motorsport.
Also joining the event is Josie Rimmer, Head of Strategy & Women in Motorsport Coordinator at DirtFish, who will share insights from one of the most respected rally media and education platforms in the world.
Before the main networking event begins, attendees will have the opportunity to join an Introduction to Motorsport session — an informal workshop designed for anyone interested in learning how to get started in the sport, whether as a competitor, volunteer, or official. This session will provide a welcoming space for newcomers to ask questions, gain guidance, and discover the many pathways available within Irish motorsport.
The evening will then feature panel discussions representing a range of disciplines — including Karting, Rallying, and Circuit Racing — and will include an Officials and Volunteers Talk, aligning with the FIA’s Volunteers and Officials Month this October.
New for this year, the event will also include a dedicated SIM/STEM Panel, exploring the intersection of motorsport, technology, and innovation. This session will highlight how simulation training and STEM education are shaping the next generation of drivers, engineers, and officials — and inspiring more young women to pursue careers in the sport.
Aiden Harper, President of Motorsport Ireland, expressed his pride in the Commission’s work, saying:
“This event is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the progress we’re making in creating a more inclusive motorsport community. The Women in Motorsport Commission has shown real leadership in bringing together drivers, volunteers, and professionals from every corner of the sport to share experiences, build connections, and inspire the next generation.”
Chairperson of the Motorsport Ireland Women’s Commission, Rosemary Walsh, added:
“Our team has worked tirelessly over the past months to create an event that reflects the passion, talent, and determination of women across all areas of motorsport. We’re thrilled to welcome such a diverse and inspiring group to Athlone — and to continue building on the momentum from last year.”
Kelsey Kirby, Motorsport Ireland’s Sports Development Officer, said:
“It’s fantastic to see the Women in Motorsport Commission leading initiatives that make the sport more accessible and inclusive. Encouraging participation — especially among women and girls — is a key priority for Motorsport Ireland, and events like this play an important role in inspiring the next generation to get involved.”
The event reaffirms the Motorsport Ireland Women in Motorsport Commission’s ongoing commitment to promoting participation, visibility, and leadership opportunities for women across every level of the sport.
